Pittman 65th
Robert and Ruth (Shapley) Pittman are celebrating 65 years of marriage today.
They were wed March 6, 1943, in a small ceremony performed in the rural Lebanon house that would become their first home. Presiding over the ceremony was the Rev. Raymond Duff, who eventually also officiated at the marriage ceremonies for each of the Pittman’s four children.
Mr. and Mrs. Pittman are lifelong residents of Boone County. They met while attending Dover School, from which they graduated in 1941. After their marriage, Mr. Pittman became a farmer and Mrs. Pittman was a homemaker. Both are now retired, although Mr. Pittman is still an active woodworker whose wares are displayed inside and outside of their home.
Mrs. Pittman is a member of the Altruistic Card Club and the Chatterbox Euchre Club. Mr. Pittman is a member of the IBE shuffleboard team.
In honor of their anniversary, the couple was feted at a party thrown by friends at their winter home in Bonita Springs, Fla. Upon their return in April they will again celebrate the occasion, this time with their children, Larry Pittman of Fort Myers, Fla., Sharon (Ron) Rolston of Dover, Harold (Sue) Pittman of Brownsburg and David (Mary Jo) Pittman of LaGrange, Ill.
Mr. and Mrs. Pittman also have nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
They would enjoy cards, which can be sent to them at their winter address of 274 Rue Viauv Circle, Bonita Springs, FL 34135.
