Robert and Janet (Poynter) Freshour, of Lebanon, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with a family gathering. The Freshours were married Oct. 18, 1953, at the Dover Christian Church. The Rev. Raymond Duff officiated. Robert is the son of the late Arthur and Mary (Johnson) Freshour of Monticello. Janet is the daughter of the late Frank and Anna (Taylor) Poynter of Dover and Lebanon. The couple have a daughter, Pamela (Dennis) D'Amico of Yorktown, and a son, Kirk (Beverly) Freshour of Lebanon; four grandchildren, Kelli (Travis) Brunes of Lebanon, Jason (Ashley) Behr of Shreveport, La., Gregory (Stacey) Freshour of Lebanon, and Dana (Jeff) Stevens of Troy, Mo.; three great-grandsons, Kollin and Cannon Brunes, and Memphis Freshour, all of Lebanon; stepgrandchildren, Holee and Nancy Bailey, and Matt and Denise D'Amico; and stepgreat-grandchildren, Ryan, Dylan, Daniel, Aden and Brayleigh McClain. Robert served in the Korean War from July 1950 to July 1952. He worked in the printing industry for 20 years at Shumate Business Forms in Lebanon and Allison Coupon Company in Indianapolis. He retired in 1990 after 22 years as the superintendent of the Lebanon Utilities Water, Sanitation and Distribution Departments. Not one to stay idle, he was instrumental in starting and overseeing the building of the present Lebanon Area Boys and Girls Club. He was a courier for the Witham Hospital Toxicology Lab, and drove a school bus for the Lebanon Community School Corp. for 11 years. Robert attended Purdue University and Ivy Tech State College. Janet worked for Eichmann's Ladies Clothing Store in Lebanon while in high school, and then graduated from Ray Vogue Fashion Merchandising School in Chicago. She worked for Marshall Field & Company in Chicago, L.S. Ayres & Company in Indianapolis, Paul Harris Store in Lebanon, Dr. James McAfee's Office, and retired after 20 years from the Lebanon Reporter as an advertising sales representative. She has been a helping hand with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The couple have been involved throughout the years in many community endeavors including the Central PTA, Central Christian Church Youth Group, Boys and Girls Club, Lebanon Little League and Babe Ruth, 4-H Council, Home Economics, Rotary Club, Psi Iota Xi Sorority, Central Indiana Korean War Veterans Association, and coaching grade school basketball. Robert was awarded the Sagamore of the Wabash Award by Governor Kernan and the Midwest Boys and Girls Club Award. The Freshours have also traveled and vacationed in Europe and most of the United States.
Harold W. and Virginia (Porter) Rose, of Thorntown, recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a supper for family and friends, served by Poe's Country Garden Catering in the banquet room of the Sugar Creek Art Center, Thorntown.
