Teen suffers serious injuries in float accident

Lebanon — Cameron Wilson, 14, Lebanon, was in Riley Hospital for Children today with severe internal injuries suffered Thursday when he fell from and was run over by a Fourth of July parade float.

Wilson was riding on the Lebanon Youth Football League’s entry, built on a flatbed wagon and towed by a pickup, as it entered the Lebanon Middle School parking lot after the parade.

At least one tire of the wagon ran over Wilson’s chest and abdomen, Lebanon Police Lt. Brent Wheat said in a press release. Wilson is listed in good condition.

Also injured were Amy Coffman, 39, and Caiden Coffman, 11, who were riding on the same float. They were treated for injuries at Witham Memorial Hospital and released.

The truck pulling the float was driven by a 15-year-old who has a learner’s permit, Wheat said. One of the driver’s parents was with him in the truck, Wheat said.

LPD Capt. Chad Morgan, who was officer in command of operations during the parade, was investigating the incident.

“It was not on the parade route; it was after,” Jennifer Hoffman, the parade chairwoman, said. “I got there at the last minute, as the ambulances were leaving,” Hoffman said.

“We are hoping everything is going well and he will recover,” Hoffman said.
