Hark! The Herald Angels Tweet--the sounds of Christmas

Lebanon Reporter

---- — More than the scent of holly and pineMore than the sight of red bows and twineMore than the feel of snow on my cheeksMore than the taste of freshly baked treatsThe sounds of Christmas make me awareOf peace and good cheer filling the airAre you listening? Sleigh bells ringAnd Christmas carols we joyfully sing“Ho, Ho, Ho!” Santa does greetWhile the crunch of snow sounds under our feetI hear from afar, the greeting of friendsAnd I hear from next door, the rattle of tinsOne sound is amiss, I’m acutely awareAs I stand in one place, to figure out whereWhere is the ringing so loud and clear?Has the little red bucket been commandeered? And then I see on her face the screen’s subtle glowShe can’t ring the bell when she’s texting her beauI began to ponder technological gearWhat if the first Christmas happened this year?Joseph could have called aheadAnd reserved a room with a King-sized bedNo angel voices filling the airShepherds download the tune, and happily shareThe drummer boy would have texted the newsAnd his friends would have Tweeted their points of viewThe Wise Men would not have followed a starBecause a GPS could direct them afarInstead of frankincense, myrrh, precious goldJesus would get an iPod, iPad, and iPhoneHe once said, “I am the way,”Perhaps he predicted Christmas todayIt boggles the mind when one stops to thinkHow everything changes as quick as a winkSadly, miracles would be preventedThe entire Christmas story circumventedBecause if Joseph had been of a technological mindHe would have just paid his taxes onlineGinger is an author, speaker and mother of five.
