There's unity Sunday in community concert

Blaine Bowman’s Good Time Band is performing at 6 p.m. this Sunday on the McDonald’s Free Stage at the Boone County 4-H Fairgrounds.

The Good Time Band has been coming to Lebanon for more than 25 years. In a single concert you will hear blues, western swing, rock, country, jazz and Southern gospel. Luke Bowman has won awards for Christian comedy. Most recently they have recorded 24 gospel parodies. The past several years, many churches have gone together to bring the Bowmans to Lebanon.

In recent years they have had five No. 1 songs across the USA and the world. In 2002 they were nominated for Trio of the Year, Band of the Year and Comedian of the Year by the Country Gospel Music Guild. The four-piece band includes Blaine (the father), Christine (the mother), their son, Luke, and their daughter, Tiffany. The Bowman family makes a harmony that ministers to the whole family.

Normally, to hear a band of this caliber a family would expect to spend more than $100. The Bowmans are performing at the fairgrounds for a free-will offering. Please invite people to this special service.

This service is special because the Bowmans have performed in Lebanon for many consecutive years, and because several churches of different beliefs have set aside their differences in belief to share a common goal to help enrich our community.

Unity is a much needed goal in the church today. David, the great leader of God’s people, put it this way in Psalm 133, “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron’s beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments; As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the LORD commanded the blessing, even life for evermore.”

The place the church will find blessing is in Unity. The words of the song do not go like this: “When all get to heaven what a day of denomination that will be.”

Come and join hands with the family of God.

Mike Goforth is senior chaplain for the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.
