Day trips from Lebanon (north)

This is a requested re-print from last year’s column. Day trips to the south of Lebanon will follow. Remember to check websites for more information on these venues.

Summer is a great time to explore areas around Indiana. Besides the well-known attractions in Indy, what else is there to do within a short drive from Lebanon? Here are a few suggestions for day trips that are off the beaten path but affordable and interesting for both children and adults. All of these venues are north of Lebanon (we will explore other areas in another column). Try one or two and experience new adventures.• Grissom Air Museum is located at 1000 Hoosier Blvd., Peru, Ind.

Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 12 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for military, and $6 for seniors and students 6-21.

Grissom has several types of planes and helicopters on display, including planes that were previously flown by President G.W. Bush and astronaut Neil Armstrong.• Peru circus museum is located at 154 N. Broadway, Peru. Their phone number is 765-472-3918.

Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday (except during circus week, when hours are extended).

Admission is free to the museum.

Circus week is July 12-20 this year. This is a worthwhile trip to see amateurs (read as students) from the area performing all the circus acts. During this week, the museum has extended hours and circus wagons will be on display outside the building. Call ahead for performance times and ticket information.• Fair Oaks Dairy is located at 865 N. 600 E, Fair Oaks, Ind. Their phone number is 877-536-1194.

Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (CST) Monday through Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Admission is $12 for adults, and $10 for children age 3 to 12, service providers in uniform are free.
