Expansions to Amazon.com’s parking lot and a roadway in the Anson Project were approved Wednesday night by the Boone County Area Plan Commission.
An additional 4.3 acres was granted for extra parking at the Amazon.com warehouse location. Previously known as Anson Building No. 1, the site is located south of County Road 400 South and west of County Road 500 East.
It was announced in March that Amazon.com was looking at the Anson Project for a new warehouse location.
Amazon.com representative Arthur Valdez said in March’s Whitestown Town Council meeting that the company will invest about $34 million in the distribution center.
He said the company will start hiring for hourly positions in June and management positions in the next 1-1/2 months.
The company will hire about 400 hourly workers and 30 to 34 managers, he said.
The projected employment in three years is 1,200 employees.
The distribution center is set to start receiving goods in September and to begin shipping in October.
The second Anson piece approved was a continuation of New Hope Boulevard.
The road will connect with County Road 650 East to the residential area in Anson.
The site includes approximately five acres of right-of-way and is located west of County Road 650 East and north of the Emmis Radio Tower site.
