Lebanon Police Chief Tom Garoffolo, Boone County Sheriff Ken Campbell and Pastor Mike Goforth lead the National Peace Officers Memorial Day service Thursday morning at the Boone County Courthouse. Dozens of emergency service workers, family members and friends appeared for the service that honors the memory of fallen law enforcement officers. Locally, three officers have died in the line of duty, including Indiana State Trooper Richard Brown, who was struck by a vehicle while investigating an accident on Interstate 74 in 1967.
“I think the most important thing a family member can ask if that people remember them,” Lisa Garoffolo, Boone County Assessor and daughter of Brown said. “What (do) their lives mean if no one remembers them?”
