Man tries to divert officers responding to robbery

— Lebanon Police arrested a man who they believe attempted to call them away from his own robbery.
Jeffrey D. “Bud” Rose, 37, Lebanon, was arrested Friday night after police found him the closet of a house where the homeowners were on vacation.
Police responded to a neighbor’s call of a possible break-in of the home in the 600 Block of North East Street. LPD Public Information Officer Brent Wheat said while police were surrounding the house, Boone County Dispatch received a call from an “anonymous” tipster who claimed that he had just witnessed a male subject fleeing the area southbound in the alley.
Wheat said three officers ran on foot and searched the area, finding nothing. A short time later, another tip was received that sent officers running to the IGA Supermarket on North Street.
Meanwhile, other officers remained behind and found forced entry to the residence. Searching the home, Wheat said police found Rose hiding inside a closet with a cell phone. After placing him under arrest, the officers had dispatch call the tipster back, causing Rose’s cell phone to ring.
Wheat said a later check of the call logs revealed that Rose had indeed contacted the dispatch center twice in the moments prior to his capture.
Rose was arrested for a class D felony of residential Entry, a Class C felony of burglary and a Class A misdemeanor of false informing.
Rose has been arrested more than 20 times in Boone County since 1991.
Previous charges against Rose include battery, theft and forgery.
