4-H dairy goats

— The first Boone County 4-H Fair competition held in the new show arena took place Friday morning.
The stars of the first show were some of Boone County’s finest dairy goats. The oppressive heat throughout the day had no effect on the indoor, air conditioned arena.
“I heard the kids really enjoy it being inside this year,” event leader Carla Hendrick said. “Everything went very well.”
This was also the first time the dairy goat competition was held separately from the meat goat competition. And the entries, and especially their owners, certainly warranted their own show, Hendrick said.
“They were all very good,” she said. “They were very enthusiastic and were so willing to help each other out.”
Taking the supreme champion title was 10-year member Lucas Sanders, 18, of Lebanon. Sanders said he was very pleased with his performance, especially with such stiff competition.
“There were some really good goats here,” Sanders said. “At first I didn’t really care if I won, but at the end, I really wanted to win.”
More than 70 dairy goats were entered this year.
