US Cold Storage cleared for start of construction
Staff report
Lebanon —
U.S. Cold Storage needs only to file a building permit, while a few technicalities and signatures are all that’s left before the Boone County Family YMCA can begin construction.
With approval Monday by the Lebanon Plan Commission of a development plan, USCS can start work on a 210,000-square-foot warehouse/distribution center in Lebanon Business Park, said LPC secretary Kristie Spencer. The company will hire about 50 workers for the $23.5 million plant, company officials said in May.
USCS plans two more warehouses, each of 182,000 square feet. The firm could hire 350 workers if all its potential expansions are built.
The company will pay an estimated $5.4 million in property taxes through 2021.
Wording on the YMCA’s plans needs to be tweaked, Spencer said, but the changes are minor. The Y’s architects can make the changes then file them with the plan department for approval, she said.
The YMCA will occupy a 32,000-square-foot building on 6.4 acres owned by Witham Health Services.
Spencer said the YMCA needed a primary plat because it does not own the site.
Construction may start after the plat is approved by the city council, Lebanon Storm Water management Board, Lebanon Utility Board and the plan commission, Spencer said.
NEW CONSTRUCTION
n Goodwill Industries has received state approval to lay a foundation for a retail outlet on North Lebanon Street, Spencer said. Goodwill may start construction after the state and city approve building permits.
n Huntington Bank has applied for a permit to build an ATM drive-through on the former site of the Bennett Opera House on West Main Street.
n Home National Bank has begun construction of a branch at Lebanon Street and County Road 250 North.
