IU president speaks at Ulen

McRobbie, a native of Australia, is IU’s 18th president, a post he has held for a year. He opened his remarks by remembering Herman B Wells, who was born in Jamestown and was the university’s 11th president. “I was impressed with his dedication to the university,” McRobbie said. “He was really quite remarkable.”

McRobbie said excellence in education and research are the foundations of the state’s future and the university’s key objectives. Initiatives toward that goal include the Indiana Innovation Alliance, the first project of its kind in cooperation with Purdue University to bring more federal dollars for private life science research and development. The alliance will bring technology “much more quickly from the bench to the bedside,” he said.

Other improvements for the university in the works include a $100 million investment in the arts and humanities and more research space for the IU School of Medicine.
