Man frees woman from submerged car

Zionsville — A quick-thinking and decisive Zionsville resident helped save the life of a woman whose vehicle was submerged in a pond near U.S. 421 and Weston Pointe Drive in Zionsville Monday morning.

Fred Robbins, 36, of Zionsville, was able to rescue Lorraine Holland, a Carmel resident, from her black Nissan. She was taken to Clarian North Medical Center. Her condition was not known at press time.

Robbins said he was flagged down by Toni Sheehy of Carmel, who initially saw the vehicle in the pond. Robbins and his wife were taking their 2-year-old daughter to a routine checkup at St. Vincent Medical Center when he was stopped.

“The car was pretty much submerged,” Robbins said. “The hood of the trunk was six to eight inches above water. I couldn’t see in any of the windows, but I knew someone had to be in there.”

Sheehy had dialed 911 and attempted to flag down several vehicles before Robbins stopped.
