Dress code changes; graduation rate climbs

Lebanon — The Lebanon Community School Corporation board voted in approval for a dress code change for Lebanon High School at Tuesday’s meeting, after a group of students held a round table, gathering research and reasons to allow the change.

Letter jackets, for athletics and extra-curricular activities such as FFA, academics, band and choir, may now be worn inside the school building during school hours. Previously, no outdoor jackets were allowed out of the lockers during school hours.

“The whole idea is the kids work really hard for these recognitions,” said LHS Principal Kevin O’Rourke, who supported the students’ recommendation. “And we want the young people to see all the opportunities for school participation. It’s a way to put that on display every day.”

LHS senior Katie Bohannon cited school spirit as a reason for the change.
