Storms close carnival, force 2 h.s. football cancellations

Boone County — Three possible tornadoes and extremely strong thunderstorms forced the cancellation of two football games and the evacuation of Lions Club Park in Zionsville Friday, where a carnival’s opening was delayed.

A tornado warning for northern Boone County was issued at 7:40 p.m., and expired at 8 p.m. Police officers in Thorntown observed rotating clouds.

Lions Club Park was set up for this weekend’s Fall Festival; the park was cleared within 20 minutes as the storm approached, according to police radio reports.
