117 walk at WeBo

Dover — The Western Boone Class of 2013 stood together for a final time, facing valedictorian Wilda Knecht and awaiting more instruction after being asked to rise.

Those instructions turned out to be musical.

“Head, shoulders, knees and toes,” Knecht sang to the soon-to-be graduates, who laughed and followed along, doing the motions to the popular children’s song.

It was a silly moment that underscored Knecht’s more serious message to her classmates during commencement exercises Saturday morning in the Western Boone Jr.-Sr. High School gymnasium.
