Athletes inspire Stokes' students

Lebanon —

Two Paralympic athletes had many lessons for the students at Hattie B. Stokes Elementary Friday morning.

Never give up.

Don’t let what’s different about you define you.

Try new things.

Don’t make fun of others.

Winning isn’t everything.

Stay healthy.

Kendra Lancaster, of Westfield, and Emma Preuschl, of Washington D.C. but originally of Indianapolis, shared with the Stokes students Friday about their experiences in the Paralympics. Their visit was the culmination of the fifth-graders’ Olympic, Greek and Latin units.

Preuschl, sister of Stokes art teacher Anna Preuschl, went to Purdue University because of its club rowing team. But she wasn’t very good, she said. She was about 50 pounds heavier at that time.
