---- — Four people are seeking the Republican Party nomination to succeed Walter “Butch” Smith on the Boone County Council. Smith has said he will not seek re-election.

John W. Hume, rural New Ross, filed paperwork Thursday morning at the Boone County Clerk’s Office to run for the District 2 council position; Hume lives in Jackson Township.

He’ll face James Hundley, rural Lebanon, who filed his paperwork on Jan. 8; John D. Hamilton of Jamestown; and Jay Schaumberg of rural Lebanon.
