Police seek vehicle in pedestrian death

Fayette — One of three vehicles that passed through Fayette during a 30- to 60-second period around 6 p.m. Sunday apparently took an elderly woman’s life.

Anita Wernsing, 78, was apparently walking across Indiana 267 from Mount Tabor Primitive Baptist Church to her home across the street, said Boone County Sheriff’s Cpl. Chris Burcham.

“She never made it,” he said.

Wernsing was hit by a car that continued north.

She was dead at the scene. No one saw the accident, but investigators have several clues.

“We’ve got a few tips,” Boone County Sheriff Ken Campbell said Monday.
