Citizen lectures county councilman

Aaron Smith, a self-proclaimed government “watchdog,” Tuesday chastised Boone County Councilman Gene Thompson for being “engaged in a gotcha contest with the sheriff.”

Smith, who founded the website Watchdog Indiana and who has been a critic of local government practices, spoke at the conclusion of the county council’s regular monthly meeting.

“I’m a little big aggravated that Mr. Thompson appears to be engaged in a gotcha contest with the sheriff,” Smith said. “I appreciate his questions; I appreciate the information he’s trying to obtain from those questions,” Smith said. “But doggone it, that information can be obtained by simply making a phone call to the sheriff before the meeting.”

Smith said, “I would like to see the council put a stop” to Thompson’s habit of disputing any additional request coming from the sheriff.
