Historic jail on auction block

---- — In the market for a used but still sturdy jail? Call Mitch Doner of Key Auctioneers.

At 1 p.m. April 10 — unless it’s sold before then — the former Boone County Jail at North Meridian and West Washington streets, on the north side of Lebanon’s square, will be sold at an absolute auction.

At an absolute auction, there is no minimum price: The final bid when the auction closes is the winning bid, no matter the amount.

Key Auctioneers, Indianapolis, is selling the building on behalf of owner Lebanon Jail On The Square LLC. The old jail was used until 1992, when the jail and sheriff’s office moved into a new building at 1905 Indianapolis Ave., Lebanon.

“We’ll be here for an hour before the sale,” Doner said, for prospective bidders to examine the property.

“It’s a very interesting building,” Doner said. “It is still fitted as a jail.”
