Lebanon — Lebanon’s annual Fourth of July fireworks exhibition has been cancelled and will not be rescheduled.
Fire Chief Jason Lee said Friday night the Fourth of July committee voted at an 8 p.m. Friday meeting to cancel the fireworks show, at his recommendation. Boone County is one of several counties experiencing a severe drought, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.
Earlier Friday, the Zionsville Lions Club announced it has canceled its July Fourth Celebration Fireworks Show in Lions Park.
Lions Club representatives and Zionsville public safety officials made the decision to cancel the fireworks show, and all other Independence Day activities at the park that evening.
Extremely dry conditions and a National Weather Service forecast for continued extreme heat through next week were factors in both cancellation decisions.
