Local utilities watch for weather-related issues

Lebanon — Though a powerful hurricane is tearing its way across the East Coast this week, residents of Boone County won’t see many of the storm’s effects.

Boone County is under a wind advisory until 8 p.m. tonight. Sustained winds are expected to be 30 to 35 miles per hour, with gusts of 40 to 50 mph, said Crystal Pettet, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Indianapolis. There is also a low chance for rain today and tonight, which will not amount to much.

The wind is the main concern for central Indiana, Pettet said. Though the winds will not be strong enough to create widespread power outages, it could knock down some trees and create some isolated problems. High-profile vehicles will also have some difficulty on the roads, “so pay attention to the semis on the highway,” she added.
