Newly-named Boone County Medical Reserve Corps volunteer coordinator Richard Stroup hopes to expand both training for and membership in the organization.
Stroup and assistant coordinator Vickie Foster succeed Aly Stewart and Tonya Beane.
About 50 people — some of them medical professionals, others citizens seeking to help others — are members of the Boone MRC, Stroup said.
It’s the newest in a list of community activities Stroup is chairing: he’s the coordinator for the Boone County Healthy Coalition and is active in rail-trail and bicycling groups.
Since being named MRC volunteer coordinator, he’s been introducing himself to those volunteers and planning ways to recruit new members.
“We would like to increase our volunteer base as best we can,” Stroup said.
Membership has been pared down because some volunteers haven’t been active, he said. “That’s one of the challenges I’ve seen as MRC coordinator, to invite those listed to become more active.”
