City cracks down on maintenance code violations

Advance — The Lebanon Planning and Zoning Department will be tightening up on the “Mr. Nice Guy” image after a proposed property maintenance ordinance was defeated by the Lebanon City Council in February after they heard public outcry against it.

The property maintenance ordinance included a citywide inspection program that had registration fees, to which most people objected. Since this ordinance was defeated, Planning and Zoning Director Charlie Campbell said the department can no longer be friendly.

“In the past, we’ve always had this friendly attitude toward zoning violations,” Campbell said Tuesday. “We’d try to open up the line of communication before issuing a zoning citation.”
