Shop with a cop accepts donations

The Boone County FOP Richard G. Brown Memorial Lodge No. 110 is still accepting donations for its Shop With a Cop outing.

This is the 16th year for the event, which will take place at 6 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Lebanon Wal-Mart. It allows low-income families to select clothing for their children, ages 12 and younger, and is an opportunity for the children to interact with law enforcement officers in a positive way, according to Boone County Sheriff’s Deputy Craig Fouts.

“We all meet at Wal-Mart, and they get to choose what they want,” Fouts explained, adding that selections are limited to clothing, diapers, boots, shoes, coats and other cold-weather items.

"We take more pride in that than buying them toys.”

The deputy said money collected is split evenly among the number of kids accepted.
