Pageant marks 55th anniversary of 4-H queen competition

Haley Risser

Haley Risser, 17, of Zionsville, will graduate from Western Boone Jr.-Sr. High School in 2014. Her parents are Jeff and Dina Risser. She is a member of the Union Merry Makers, and is sponsored by the Boone County Horseman’s Association. 4-H projects include horse and pony, 4 years; swine, 5 year; foods, 3 years; scrapbooking, 1 year; veterinary science, 1 year, and gift wrapping, 1 year. Special 4-H activities and awards include qualifying for and participating in the Horse & Pony Versatility Sweepstakes for two years, receiving the Mike Lancaster Scholarship for the Indiana 4-H Camp in 2012 and earning most improved individual at Indiana 4-H Horse Camp in 2012. Outside of 4-H she is a member of the National Honor Society, Boone County Horsemen’s Association and Sunshine Society, and has been named to the honor roll and received the student of the month award. She works on a private horse farm in Sheridan. She enjoys spending time with friends and family, fishing, reading, showing her horse, meeting new people, volunteering in the community and helping younger 4Hers with their projects.

Sydney Riegel

Sydney Riegel, 18, of Jamestown, graduated from Western Boone High School in 2013. Her parents are Bill and Sheri Riegel. She is sponsored by the Jefferson Harvesters 4-H Club, of which she is a member. She earned reserve grand champion in genealogy. Her activities and honors outside of 4-H include National Technical Honor Society; church mission trips; and world travelers — school, Spain, France, Mexico and Costa Rica. Her hobbies and interests include tanning, hanging out with friends and family, and going on vacation.

Grace Rushton

Grace Rushton, 17, of Zionsville, will graduate from Zionsville High School in 2014. Her parents are Jerry and Elizabeth Rushton.Her sponsor is My Sugar Pie. She is a member of the Flying Eagles 4-H Club and her projects include dog project, eight years; and cake decorating and photography, one year. Other 4-H activities and awards include nomination for the leadership conference at Purdue and dog project car wash. Outside of 4-H, her activities and honors include United Way Youth Leadership Initiative, Riley Hospital Summer of Service program, Zionsville tennis team, Mu Alpha Theta math club, student council, Best Buddies, Timmy Club, O’Ambassadors, National Honor Society, French National Honor Society, French Club, STAR tutoring, EKOM mentoring, 4.0 GPA and above award, top student in French IV, top student in French V, and player with the highest GPA on JV tennis. She is employed at My Sugar Pie. She enjoys tennis, photography, hiking, reading, volunteering, baby-sitting, traveling, fashion, watching movies, swimming, baking and skiing.
