Lebanon joins Worth annexation discussions

Boone County — Lebanon has now entered the ring, attempting to annex land in Worth Township, where Whitestown and Zionsville are already duking it out.

The Lebanon City Council approved an ordinance at its Monday meeting to annex 8,270 acres in western Worth Township, overlapping 2,621 acres Whitestown is also currently trying to annex.

This all began Nov. 6, when a Whitestown-Worth Township reorganization plan was defeated in the general election via a referendum question. The defeat, with a final tally of 61 percent of the votes (1,120) to 39 percent (716), opened the door for Zionsville to annex the area, which it began the next morning.

Zionsville Town Council President Tim Haak recently told The Times-Sentinel that the council did not discuss the annexation until the residents of Worth Township contacted Zionsville, expressing concerns about being annexed into Whitestown.
