VIDEO: 12 taken to area hospitals after school bus rolls

Lebanon — Five elementary-aged special needs children and their caretakers escaped serious injury Thursday after the school bus that was carrying them drove into the median of I-65 and rolled before coming to a stop.

The crash of a Lafayette School Corporation bus occurred at 2 p.m. on I-65 northbound just south of I-865 as the children and their chaperones were returning to the Lafayette area after a field trip to the Indianapolis Zoo.

Lisa Stacey of Lafayette was traveling with her husband on I-65 southbound, when they saw the bus drive into the median.

“We were coming the opposite direction,” she said. “My husband saw it coming. He said, ‘Oh no! Oh no!’ ... It just kind of started veering and went into the median and flipped at least one time all the way over. ... It went completely over and then came to a stop.”
