No end to emergency calls in the county

More than 100 slide-offs reported

Boone County — As the temperatures begin to plummet and travel remains treacherous, law enforcement and emergency workers in Boone County continue to respond to numerous calls, including a tree smashing into a Zionsville home, and a woman in labor in Lebanon.

At 9:45 p.m., Zionsville Fire Department was sent to the 4400 block of Thicket Trace in Zionsville and a tree fell on a house, shattering the front window. No injuries were reported.

Then, just after 10 p.m., Whitestown Utilities blocked off Main Street after power lines fell into the street. Duke Energy responded to repair those lines. At 10:33 p.m. dispatch received a report of a vehicle that was buried with people inside in the 4400 block of East County Road 650 South in Whitestown.

At 11:10 p.m. Boone County EMS and at Lebanon Fire Department was called to a home in the 200 block of West Lakeshore Drive where a woman who was 39 weeks pregnant was in labor with contractions 3 to 5 minutes apart. Records show that help reached the home by 11:19 p.m., and the ambulance left for the hospital at 11:30 p.m. and arrived there four minutes later. Further details were not immediately available.

Boone County was declared to be in a snow emergency mid-day Sunday, but many people continued to attempt to travel, often with disastrous results.

Slide-offs and minor wrecks were reported all over the county throughout the day and night, including a county highway truck and three semis that went off the road at Ind. 32 at County Road 900 West, in Advance at 5:30 p.m.

As the night wore on and travel became nearly impossible, and other emergencies required response as well.

At 12:23 a.m. Monday, a call came from a Ford Escape SUV at Ind. 75 at County Road 700 S., Jamestown, where two adults and a child were stranded in the vehicle. Other reports of people stranded in vehicles came in earlier as well.
