The Lebanon baseball team knew how crucial this week's series against North Montgomery was if they wanted to stay in the Sagamore Conference race.
The Tigers entered the game with a 5-2 conference record, but the Chargers were 7-0 in the conference. Lebanon got the start of the series they were looking for, scoring five runs in the to of the sixth to top North Montgomery 8-4.
"It is great to get the win," Lebanon head coach Rick Cosgray said. "North Mont. is a very, very good team. They are very athletic, have good team speed and are all-around a sound opponent. Our kids battled for seven innings and that is what it took. We have a done a very good job of that and we continued to do that tonight."
Lebanon trailed 2-1 after two innings but took a 3-2 lead in the top of the third, capitalizing on two North Montgomery errors.
Coty Edwards walked and moved to third on Caleb Myers single.
Colton Ranney singled to score Edwards, and after the next two batters got out, back-to-back Charger errors allowed a second run in the inning to score.
It was the Chargers who took advantage of Lebanon miscues in the next couple of innings, scoring on a wild pitch in the fourth and an error in the fifth to lead 4-3 after five innings.
