15 vie for Boone County 4-H Queen honors

The annual Miss Boone County 4-H Queen Pageant will be conducted Sunday. The pageant, which is free to the public, will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Witham Health Services Pavilion at the Boone County 4-H Fairgrounds. Doors will open to the public at 6 p.m. Snacks and drinks will be available. Following are profiles of eight of the 15 young women who will compete for the title Sunday. The remaining seven contestants will be featured in Saturday’s Lebanon Reporter.

Rachelle Bennington

Rachelle Bennington, 18, of Lebanon, was home-schooled, graduating in 2011. Her parents are Debbie and Jerry Bennington. She is a 10-year member of the Center Township 4-H Clovers. 4-H projects include gift wrapping, latch hook, health, scrapbook, microwave cooking, consumer clothing and foods, 10 years; photography and self determined, nine years; and computers, 8 years. She was her club’s vice president for two years. Special 4-H activities and awards include 4-H Tenure Award (2012), Tri Kappa Award at the 2011 4-H Fair queen pageant (2011), and 4-H 10-year member silver platter. Activities and honors outside of 4-H include IU School of Informatics dean’s list, spring and fall 2012 and spring 2013; Sunday school volunteer, five years; lead Sunday school teacher, 2012-present; National Society of Collegiate Scholars, 2012-present; and Golden Key International Honour Society, 2012-present. She is employed at IUPUI as a grader/teacher’s assistant. She enjoys designing websites, riding bikes, shopping, running and watching “Doctor Who.”

Taylor Burris

Taylor Burris, 17, of Lebanon, will graduate from Lebanon High School in 2014. She is the daughter of Lynette Burris and Jim Ward, and Raymond Burris Jr. Her sponsoring organization is the 4-H Clovers. She is a member of the 4-H Clovers, and her projects include fine arts, photography, poultry and rabbits, two years; and swine, garden and devotion leader, one year. Outside of 4-H, her activities include LHS Pennant newspaper reporter/editor, Best Buddies photographer; and Lebanon Public Library volunteer. She enjoys photography, reading, writing, poetry, drawing, working with special needs children and 4-H swine.
