15 vie for Boone County 4-H Queen honors

Emily Carithers

Emily Carithers, 18, of Sheridan, is a 2013 graduate of Sheridan High School. She is the daughter of John and Paula Carithers. A member of Marion Achievers 4-H Club, her 4-H projects include poultry, nine years; dairy goats and shooting sports, eight years; junior leaders and horse and pony, three years; and cats, 1 year. Other 4-H activities and awards include 4-H round up, 2007; fall awards trip, 2008; master dairy goat showman, 2010; and supreme marksman, 2012. Outside of 4-H, her activities and honors include four years of basketball, with one year as co-captain; drama club, one year; National Honor Society; academic honors diploma; Spanish quiz bowl, three years; golf, one year; youth group member; and student venture leader (student leader). Her employment has included part-time work at Pizza Harbour, detasseling and acting as crew boss in the summers. She enjoys basketball, hanging out with friends, going to the movies, roller derby, helping people and family time.

Kate Emmert

Kate Emmert, 19, of Jamestown, graduated from Western Boone High School in 2013. Her parents are Joan and Gary Emmert. She is a member of the Harrison Hustlers 4-H Club. The Harrison Hustlers are her sponsoring organization. A 10-year member of 4-H, her projects include foods, 10 years; cats and scrapbook, nine years; junior leader, 4 years; photography, three years; misc. crafts, two years; and consumer clothing, one year. Other 4-H activities and awards include Chicago achievement trip; 4-H talent show, 1st place vocal group; overall champion in cats; reserve champion in cats; state fair talent show, 3rd place; and open show photography sweepstakes grand champion and reserve champion. Outside of 4-H, her activities and honors include Lilly Foundation Scholarship, Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship, United Way ReadUp tutor, Hoosier Girls State, Academic Top 10, varsity girls swimming captain, National Honor Society, AMP freshman mentor, Theatrical Society/musicals, Western Boone yearbook editor, Star Voices chamber choir, solo and ensemble vocal gold medalist, church drama team, church singing leader for ages 4 and under, church nursery volunteer, Radio/TV Techincal Honor Society, Key Club and Sunshine Society. She is employed as a private swim instructor. “I enjoy acting, singing, writing and creating crafts and projects. I have great fun making videos in French, traveling, performing in musicals and dancing with my sister, Abby.”
