Heat brings animal abuse complaints

---- — Area police agencies are dealing with an influx of animal abuse calls, a situation an officer theorized could be prompted by the recent high heat and humidity.

At least five complaints were made Thursday to the Boone County Dispatch Center about animals, ranging from pygmy goats to dogs, the callers believed were being mistreated.
