Property taxes due Friday

Boone County — Boone County Treasurer Debbie Ottinger is reminding residents that the deadline to pay the spring installment of property taxes is this Friday.

Payment for property taxes, personal property taxes and ditch assessments are all due Friday, Ottinger said. If not paid by Friday, there is a five percent penalty. And if not paid after 30 days, there is an additional five percent penalty.

“We have been very busy the last week, and we’re anticipating a lot of walk-ins this week,” Ottinger said. “But we’re doing our very best to make sure no one has to wait more than a couple of minutes in line.”

If a resident has paid off his or her mortgage, and the mortgage company has always paid the taxes in the past, Ottinger encourages those residents to verify with the company who is now responsible for making that payment. Payments may be dropped off at the treasurer’s office at the Boone County Courthouse from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. There is also an option to pay through mail or online at www.boonecounty.in.gov; click “tax information” on the left-hand side.

Payments have been coming in very consistently since residents began receiving tax statements, Ottinger said.

“It appears to be going well,” she said.

If someone has lost their tax statement, Ottinger said she can email it to the property owner, or a copy can be picked up at her office. Call the office at 765-482-2880 with any property tax questions.
