Theater fire arsonist sought

A bungled attempt to set fire to the Center Stage Community Theatre , 604 Powell St., Lebanon, isn’t affecting auditions or performances.

Investigators have several leads in the 1:13 a.m. Saturday fire, Lebanon Fire Chief Jason Lee said.

“Someone tried to set fire to the side of the building in four places,” Lee said. A combination of high humidity and the high moisture content of the exposed boards caused the fire to burn itself out in three places, he said.

“They used an accelerant, we do know that,” Lee said. Less than 20 gallons of water were needed to put out the fire.

Enough damage was caused, however, for the incident to be considered felony arson, Lee said.

“Any information would be helpful; people can call 765-482-8827 with tips,” he said. A reward may be offered, Lee said.
