Senior Services bids farewell to Sue Ritz

Boone County — As Sue Ritz looks back on her 25-year career with the Boone County Senior Services in her last month as executive director, the passion and respect that the organization created in her for the older adult is unmistakable. It has created a professional path that has been very fulfilling.

But it has also changed her. Ritz’s background is with young children, in elementary education. That’s what she thought she wanted to do, she said. But then, as a young mother, she took a part-time job with senior services in 1988 as a volunteer coordinator for the friendly visitor program. Through that, she became passionate about the value older adults give to a community, while she was also watching her own mother age.

Ritz began to take on more responsibilities at senior services. And in 2000, then-director and BCSS founder Margot Corson was killed in a car accident.
