Sheriff’s office seeks funding for new software

Boone County — It’s past time for the county to retire its CISCO Software dispatching system, Sheriff Ken Campbell said, and he’s not kidding.

The Creative Information Systems Company’s public safety software suite has been used to dispatch emergency units and track a variety of records for more than a quarter-century, “but it is at its end of life,” Boone County Sheriff’s Office Major Mike Nielsen said at last week’s Boone County Council meeting. CISCO Software is not related to Cisco Systems, which sells hardware and software products for businesses and consumers.

A software suite sold by InterAct, of Winston-Salem, N.C., is the preferred replacement, but it will cost $505,906 to get information transferred to it, plus annual maintenance payments. InterAct’s service would unite 9-1-1 dispatch, computer-aided dispatch, records, mapping and jail management and make all the information accessible to all of the county’s public safety departments.
