Drivers who ignore snow emergencies may face fines

By Rod Rose

Boone County — Drivers who ignore the most serious of snow emergency warnings could be fined up to $50 and have their vehicles towed, if the Boone County Commissioners approve a new ordinance at their meeting Tuesday.

The ordinance updates chapter 33 of the Boone County Code.

It would formally establish four levels of snow emergency conditions, following a format adopted by the Indiana Department of Homeland Security.

A “caution,” or “white,” level emergency notice would be an alert to residents that snowy or icy conditions could develop that would require travel restrictions.
