Bike to school

Zionsville — Eagle pupils were encouraged to ride a bike, scooter or to walk to school. Special traffic cones were set up and police were on hand for added safety, as bikes flowed into the school.

May is National Bike Month, and several other local events are planned. Indiana Bike-to-Work Day is Friday, May 17. Anyone interested in riding to downtown Indianapolis, should meet at 6:30 a.m. at Nebo Ridge Bicycles at 106th Street and Michigan Road to ride with fellow commuters. Festivities will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. at the City Market. A 7-mile group fun ride will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 18, at Elm Street Green park in Zionsville. The loop will showcase some of Zionsville’s parks and pathways. Mechanics will be available the hour before the ride to conduct a bike safety check. The Zionsville Farmers’ Market will have a Bike-to-Market Day from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 25. Prizes will be awarded for longest and shortest trip, oldest and youngest rider, best cargo ride, spirit award and longest family train. Contact pathway committee chairman Tim Casady at tim@neboridge.com for more information.
