Emmert 4th runner-up at state fair

Lebanon — Abby Emmert didn’t expect to be named one of the 10 finalists at Sunday’s Indiana State Fair Queen Pageant.

“It was just a surprise,” the 2011 Boone County 4-H Queen said Monday as she took a break from preparing to return to classes at DePauw University, Greencastle, where she will be a sophomore majoring in English literature.

“I was the first contestant they called to come down for the top 10,” she said. On her way to the stage, she was thinking, “take it one step at a time.”

The next step for Emmert, daughter of Joan and Gary Emmert, was being named the pageant’s fourth runner-up.

Emmert was one of 88 contestants in the pageant.
