Volunteers turn out to clean up city park

Lebanon — In a campaign driven almost entirely by social media, volunteers turned out at Abner Longley Southside Park in Lebanon Monday afternoon, to collect debris dropped there 24 hours early by an EF-2 tornado.

The park was situated at the end of the 3.5-mile swath of damage caused by the tornado, and debris littered the entire park.

Ben VanTilburg, 16, is a Lebanon High School soccer player, and he turned out to help clean up the park because he had spend so much time there in the past.

“I played (soccer) out here most of my youth,” he said, “and I just want to make sure that everyone can continue to use it.”

VanTilburg learned about the clean-up from a Facebook post.
