Two 18-year-olds from Boone County died early Sunday morning in a crash in the 1600 block west of County Road 800 North, according to a report released by the Boone County Sheriff's Office Sunday afternoon.
The sheriff's office identified the crash victims as Jacob Shockley of Advance and Richard Penny Jr., of Lebanon. Shockley was the driver of the 1993 blue Honda Civic that was involved in the one-vehicle crash.
According to the report, Shockley and Penney were occupants of the Civic, which was westbound on County Road 800 North when it ran off the roadway on the sound side, colliding head on into a tree. Area residents heard a noise around 1 a.m. but did not see the car or crash due to the terrain in the area. The accident was reported at 8 a.m. Sunday.
Accident reconstruction is being undertaken, and the speed of the vehicle at the time of the crash has not yet been determined. Drug and alcohol results also are pending.
The sheriff's office was assisted by Boone County F.A.C. Team, the Lebanon Police Department, the Zionsville Police Department, Boone County EMS, the Boone County Coroner's Office, Lebanon Fire Department and the Thorntown/Sugar Creek Township Fire Department.
