City council takes stand against Indiana House bill

Lebanon Mayor Huck Lewis and the Lebanon City Council took a stand against Indiana Gov. Mike Pence’s vision to eliminate the business personal property tax statewide at Monday’s city council meeting.

The council unanimously approved a resolution, which states the tax elimination would result in an across-the-board hike in real property tax rates, “representing yet another transfer of the tax burden from businesses to individuals and disproportionately affecting homeowners in communities like Lebanon.” The resolution states the city council takes a clear policy position that the Indiana legislature should not pass any legislation that could reduce or eliminate the business personal property tax.
