State grades local schools

Boone County — Lebanon High School and Central Elementary School were both given an “A” by the Indiana Department of Education as the IDOE unveiled its controversial letter grades for more than 2,000 Indiana schools Wednesday.

Western Boone Community School Corporation is celebrating three “A”s — one for each of its schools: Western Boone Jr.-Sr. High School, Thorntown Elementary and Granville Wells Elementary.

“We didn’t know it was coming because we didn’t know how it was going to be calculated or how it was all going to come together,” Superintendent Dr. Judi Hendrix said Wednesday. “We just kind of kept our fingers crossed.”
