All county elected officials will see a three percent raise in pay in 2013, but that decision did not come easily at Tuesday’s Boone County Council budget meeting.
Councilman David Rodgers said he is opposed to giving elected officials a raise while the county is operating in the red. But there is one way he would vote yes on the issue — if the council approved some differentiation in salaries for the officials.
“The only way I will vote to increase salaries of office holders is if we start to make some differentiation,” he said at Tuesday’s meeting. Councilman Gene Thompson agreed, saying there needs to be a decision that each elected office is worth a certain amount of money based on the responsibilities and the number of employees each office has.
