Grant Street bridge will close for replacement on Oct. 1

Lebanon — Lebanon residents who use Grant Street between Washington and Williams streets will need to find an alternate route beginning Oct. 1.

A bridge there over Prairie Creek will be replaced, with the project expected to take three months, weather permitting.

The $618,598 contract was awarded to Duncan Robertson at a Sept. 4 Boone County Commissioners meeting. Only one other bid, from George Harvey & Son Inc., had been received; it was $621,035.

County Highway Superintendent Rick Carney said the bridge decking is “crumbling.” The city of Lebanon has paved the bridge deck, creating the appearance that the structure is in good shape. Carney said at an earlier commissioners’ meeting that he had contacted the Lebanon Community School Corp. about the project, because several school bus routes use Grant Street to and from Lebanon Middle School and Lebanon High School, and from Central Elementary School.
