County OKs mobile food stand fee

Boone County — Operators of mobile food stands will have to pay $50 for a health department permit, after the Boone County Commissioners approved the new charge at their meeting Monday. The change is effective Jan. 1.

The fee is not for “the trucks that pull up to serve lunch,” said Greg Inman, supervisor of the Boone County Health Department’s environmental division. Those vendors already pay a $140 annual fee, Inman said.

Instead, the health department wants to charge independent door-to-door providers who are selling frozen meat. A growing number of the prepackaged vendors have been visiting the Zionsville area, he said.
