Season’s coldest air arrives this weekend

Boone County — The coldest air of the season is moving into Lebanon and Boone County tonight and temperatures will continue to drop until Tuesday, with a high that day lower than last night’s low.

Tuesday’s high of 16 degrees is a frigid comparison to today’s high in the upper 40s, according to the National Weather Service of Indianapolis, and even last night’s low in the lower 30s.

The average high for Boone County this time of year is around 35 degrees, said John Hendrickson, meteorologist with the NWS of Indianapolis. But the cold temperatures are a positive thing to him, signaling that the area will not experience the extremely temperate winter of last year.

“So far this is more of a normal winter as opposed to last year,” Hendrickson said. “Hopefully that (mild winter) won’t happen again because, if we get too many records, it could mean bad things ahead.”

The cold front will enter the area from Canada from the northwest, he added. It is a dry front, so no precipitation is expected.
