City scales back annexation plan

Boone County — Lebanon is pulling back its front lines in an annexation war over the land in Worth Township.

Though the city was originally seeking roughly 13 square miles of land, Lebanon Mayor Huck Lewis said Thursday that he is now looking at annexing just two square miles in southwest Worth Township.

“We started looking at it, and to take the whole area at this time is just not the practical thing for the city to do,” he said. “We’re trying to be prudent with taxpayer dollars, and I think it just makes sense to cut back.”
